It was based on the GM platform. Production of the Grand Am Grilles was cancelled in 1980 when it was replaced by the 6000. The Grand Am Grilles was reintroduced in 85 when it replaced the Phoenix. On that particular point, the Grand Am Grilles was based on the GM N platform and became a from 85 to 06 and was replaced by the Pontiac G6. All Grand Am Grilless between 85 and 05 were built in Lansing, Michigan.
